Additional Information | Smith was a supporter of the practice of Thomsonian or botanic medicine. Smith is listed in the 1816 Boston city directory as a preacher. From 1829 to 1837 he is listed as a physician - in 1833 as a botanic physician. Samuel Thomson appointed Smith his general agent and allowed him a generous commission. While still in Thomson's employ, Smith established a competing botanic system. In one of his many litigations Thomson took legal action against Smith for encroaching on his system, but the court ruled against him. |
