Description Sylvester Graham was a health reformer as radical as an abolitionist. He began by promoting home-baked bread and went on to crusade for total abstinence from meat, alcohol and sex (except for procreation). He believe urbanization and prosperity were creating an unnatural and unhealthy style of life. His ideas were popularized in this journal.
