Description Buchan was the first writer in English to combine in one book recipes for home treatment with general advice about diet, lifestyle, and how to live longer. First published in Edinburgh in 1769 and in America in 1772, it was reprinted at least 142 times over a century, and adapted to changing times until "Buchan" became in effect a brand name.

Additional Information The publisher enumerated this Hartford edition the 11th, however it is not based on the 11th London edition, which was published the following year. Assuming Austin's 'Early American medical imprints' to be complete, this Hartford edition is the 7th edition of Buchan to be published with an American imprint.
