Additional Information | John Bell was born in Ireland where he lived until 1810 when his parents emigrated to Virginia. In 1817 he received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to his private practice, Bell lectured on the institutes of medicine and materia medica at the Philadelphia Medical Institute, served on the staff of the City Hospital and was active in the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, the Philadelphia County Medical Society, the American Philosophical Society and the American Medical Association. |
